FAQ

What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese healing technique for relaxation and stress reduction. It is based on the concept that all living things have energy flowing through and around them, and if our energy flow is low or blocked we are more likely to get sick and feel stress, but if it is flowing freely and clearly we are more capable of being happy and healthy, both emotionally and physically.

Is Reiki a type of massage?
No, Reiki is not a form or massage. Instead, it consists of a Reiki practitioner placing his or her hands gently on a client's chakras (energy centers) to start the flow of healing energy.

How often should I have a Reiki treatment?
It depends on the client. If there is a particular acute issue the client would like to address, such as headaches or insomnia, I recommend coming as often as once a week. If the client's goal is to feel a more general sense of increased health, one session a month might suffice. It can also be used on an as-needed basis, such as when one is going through a major life change and needs some extra support. It is important to discuss goals and intentions before a session, and decide what feels right to both the client and practitioner.

Does the Reiki practitioner get tired or depleted during a session?
No, Reiki is universal energy, not the practitioner's own energy. The practitioner is a conduit through which the flow of Reiki streams.

Is Reiki safe during pregnancy?
Yes!! Reiki is safe and natural and works in conjuction with all other Western and Eastern healing practices. Reiki is wonderful for sciatica, anxiety, morning sickness, fatigue, and many other pregnancy-related symptoms. Developing babies love it too!

How about children and animals?
Reiki is a powerful, practical and natural way to promote a sense of calm and balance within kids of all ages. Pets, especially dogs and horses, respond well to Reiki too.

What is "Distant Reiki"?
Energy is not limited by space or time. A distant Reiki session is one during which the client is not physically present. I have a specific protocol for distant treatments, including a phone call prior to the session to discuss intentions, a pre-determined start and end time to the session, and a detailed email afterwards with feedback from the session and ideas for addressing particular issues. I am also happy to call the client after the treatment to discuss the session in more detail. And yes, a distant session is just as powerful as an in-person session.

Who can benefit from a Reiki treatment?
Everyone! Reiki is safe, natural and especially helpful for those who are experiencing a major life transition, pregnancy, divorce, chronic pain or cancer, insomnia, the loss of a loved one, anxiety or stress.
